The New Church teaches

The mind is spiritual and the body is natural, and the soul, which is the essence of a person, is from heaven. The souls and minds of people are not in space as their bodies are because they are heavenly and spiritual. Since they are not in space they can be together even when their bodies are not. This is especially true between married partners who deeply love each other. They are together however distant they are in body because conjugial love joins two souls and minds together. When one moves on to the next life this spiritual relationship continues.
